Curriculum Studies: Primary Studies of Society and Environment (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be aware of the need for and value of Studies of Society & Environment in children's learning in the primary school; be familiar with current policies, directions and documents in this key area (for example, SOSE Curriculum Standards Framework); understand how the social science disciplines inform the SOSE key learning area; be able to identify Studies of Society & Environment concepts, generalisations, skills, values and attitudes; understand a variety of appropriate learning models that can be applied using a range of learning technologies in a variety of social and environmental contexts and become familiar with assessment and evaluation techniques for ascertaining students' learning needs and strengths.

Assessment: Written assignment (1500 words): 40% + Examination (2000 words): 60% + Hurdle requirement: 80% for workshop components.
