Music in Early Childhood (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: The broad aims of this unit are for you to demonstrate evidence of: - developing knowledge and understanding of how young children develop musically from pre-birth until the age of 8; - developing a theoretical understanding of music learning and teaching theories appropriate to the age group; - confidently being able to assess, plan, prepare and implement appropriate experiences in a range of early childhood settings; - being able to implement a framework to observe, assess and document musical experiences in early childhood settings; - understanding the importance of why children should compose as well as provide students with the opportunity to compose their own music; - possessing the skills, knowledge and understanding of relevant repertoire for children in their early years.

Assessment: Class test: [800 word equivalent : objectives 1, 2]: 20% + Folio of exercises [1200 word equivalent : objectives 3, 4, 6] : 30% + Oral Presentation [2000 word equivalent : objectives 2, 5, 6] : 50%
