Directing Workshop (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon successfully completing this subject, students should be able to carry out a directing project from preparation through to performance, and thus be able to: 1. Engage in dramaturgical research. 2. Prepare a text for rehearsal with actors. 3. Carry out detailed and careful rehearsal. 4. Collaborate with other theatre practitioners in order to present a performance. 5. Understand the relations between performance work and the contexts in which it will be presented. 6. Keep a detailed and clear record of work such that other practitioners would be able to follow the production strategies.

Assessment: Directed project (equivalent 3000 words): 60% + Director's workbook with notes (1500 words): 30% + Workshop participation: 10%

Contact Hours: 3 hours (1 x 3 hour workshop) per week

Prerequisites: A second-year sequence in Drama and Theatre Studies

Corequisites: DTS3000
