Synopsis:

Assessment: Two assignments: 25% each + Final 2-hour examination: 50%

Contact Hours: 2 hours lectures, 2 hours tutorial per week

Prerequisites: CSE4881 or CSE4882. Knowledge: An introduction to digital communications technologies with emphasis on design issues and technologies of the two lower layers (physical layer and data link layer) of the communication stack. Topics studied should include: Modulation and coding techniques. Multiplexing and switching. Digital Modulation techniques and modem standards. LAN technologies and MAC techniques. Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, etc,. N-ISDN, Frame Relay and ATM. Wireless PANs, LANs, WAN architecture and technologies. Satellite communications.
