Health promotion in rural environments (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: This unit is designed to introduce the students to the concept, principles , philosophy and strategies of health education and promotion, oriented towards plans for actions, leading to progressive improvements in the health of rural residents. It is intended that the unit will encourage students to: 1. Develop an understanding of positive attributes of health and health improvements by changing health related behaviours. 2. To enhance their understanding of health prevention by critical review of theories in context of health education and promotion and reflection on learning and teaching processes. 3. To develp an understanding of culture-specific health needs and health promotion strategies appropriate for rural environment. 4. To develop enabling, mediating and advocating skills.

Assessment: Quizes + written assignments + discussion using teleconference and on-line discussion
