Synopsis:

Objectives: Distributed applications review. Software and hardware used for connecting devices to the internet. Survey of device-oriented communication protocols. Locating services; and dynamic discovery methods. Communicating between clients and services. Modelling asynchronous events. Federating services to build global networks of service discovery. Web services. Security issues in internet services. Transaction models for distributed services. User interfaces for internet services. Bridging between protocols.

Assessment: 1.Three assignments worth 60% 2.Final examination worth 40%

Contact Hours: 4 hours per week

Prerequisites: Programming experience in Java and programming experience in distributed systems
