Introduction to Cognitive Science (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On completion of this unit students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of: 1) the fundamental mechanisms of the mind and the principles of human behaviour; 2) the basic principles and technologies associated with artificial intelligence, robotics and multimedia systems; 3) the links between disciplines contributing to cognitive science; 4) relevant literature and be able to critically evaluate and communicate their analyses of it

Assessment: One laboratory-based assignment (may be on-line) (1000 words): 20% Essay (2000 words): 30% + Examination (2 hours): 50%

Contact Hours: 3 hours (2 x 1 hour lectures and 1 x 1 hour laboratory) per week

Prerequisites: All off-campus students require access to a personal computer, CD-ROM drive and the internet
