Biology of Australian vertebrates (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Development of an understanding of: the historical factors that have influenced the evolution of the Australian fauna; the significance of physiological, behavioral and nutritional adaptations in vertibrates in relation to their ecology. Development of: an introductory knowledge of techniques for investigating the functional ecology of organisms; enhanced skills in information retrieval and data mining in biology; and the synthesis and presentation of this information into critically presented written analyses. Development of skills in oral and visual communication of biological concepts.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 50% + Written reports: 40% + oral presentation 10%

Contact Hours: two 1-hour lectures and the equivalent of 3 hours of practical and/or field work per week

Prerequisites: 12 points from level two BOT/ZOO/BIO, including ZOO2042 or BIO2242 or permission
