Paramedic clinical practice 2 - Acute care (3 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: By the completion of this unit, the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate an ability to review his/her own clinical experience and arrange suitable learning experiences to maintain learning needs relevant to the clinical experience in a general hospital 2. Demonstrate progress in the development of clinical, professional and leadership capabilities from novice to beginner paramedic through clinical experience in the environment of a general hospital environment 3. Demonstrate an ability in the general hospital setting to participate where appropriate, as part of a health care team, in the management of real life problems from their initiation and to assimilate information quickly and communicate it clearly and unambiguously 4. Demonstrate an ability in a team, to apply theoretical knowledge and clinical skills learnt in this course to the care of patients with cardio-respiratory, trauma and environmental conditions within a general hospital environment using the model of Paramedic clinical competence 5. Demonstrate a progress in the development of a culturally sensitive approach to the recognition and management of the reactions of patients and family to acute illness or injury as experiences in the setting of a general hospital 6. Describe the operational setting of the general hospital environment and how paramedics may improve the continuity of care.

Contact Hours: The equivalent of 2 weeks full time supervised clinical placement - a total of 78 hours. The normal semester period is lengthened so that the clinical requirements of this unit and the associate unit BEH2032 Paramedic clinical practice 1 - Patient transport and ambulance can be met.

Corequisites: Either BEH2012 or BEH2022
