Tourism Industry Development in Scandinavia and Northern Europe ( points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Students can expect to: 1. demonstrate an understanding of: the contrasting development models of tourism in established western and emerging post communist Eastern European destinations; tourism development theory as it applies to 'real life' destinations; the tourism development process; the development of specific sectors of the tourism industry; 2. learn techniques of reading varied tourism landscapes from which they can draw conclusions and raise questions about future tourism development; 3. develop: research, analytical and reporting skills and a greater critical awareness of issues of tourism development applied to specific settings in Northern Europe

Assessment: Individual site analysis 1500: 30%, Essay 2000: 40%, Written group presentations 1000: 20%, Participation & oral group presentations:10%. Preliminary on campus seminars and concluding lectures and seminars with a study tour experience of Northern Europe.

Contact Hours: 22 hours of lectures at Berwick and Clayton and on a 14 day field trip and study tour in Northern Europe.
