Contemporary Issues in Tourism (12 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: 1. To provide students with an understanding of how the tourism industry operates from both an Australian and Global perspective. 2. To develop students' capacity to undertake original research on an area of their particular interest. 3. To develop students' written and oral communication skills. 4. To provide students with an understanding of key issues facing the future development of the industry. 5. To provide students with an understanding of the principles of how the internet is applicable to the tourism industry (e-tourism). 6. To provide students with the ability to design a functional web page suitable for the tourism industry.

Assessment: Research paper (5500 words): 60% + Group fieldwork assignment & presentation: 20% + 1.5 hour examination to review key concepts discussed during the course worth 20%

Contact Hours: 7 x 3 hour lectures, 2 x 2 hour student presentation seminars and a 7 day intensive study tour with industry seminars and field work
