International study program in accounting (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: At the conclusion of this unit, students will be able to: 1.Demonstrate an understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards and how they relate to Australian Accounting Standards. 2.Understand the role and operation of the International Financial Reporting Standards Board and other Regulatory Bodies in the issue of Accounting Standards. 3.Understand the manner in which professional accounting firms and companies ensure compliance and consistency of domestic standards with International Financial Reporting Standards. 4.Identify the impact of International Financial Reporting Standards on a number of current accounting issues.

Assessment: Examination (60%); 2000 work case study (20%) participation (20%).

Contact Hours: 5 X 3 hour classes held over 2 weeks. 12 x 2 hour visits to professional bodies and companies during the international component of programs over a period of approximately 3 weeks.

Prerequisites: Must have passed 8 units, including at least 2 units from the Department of Accounting and Finance.
