The normal entry requirement is an approved teaching qualification. The length of the course and the entrance requirements for admission into the initial teacher education qualification will determine the amount of advanced standing a candidate may be awarded.
To be eligible for the award of the four-year Bachelor of Educational Studies (Special Education) degree, a candidate must complete units totalling 192 credit points. Students will normally be admitted to the course with either 96 points or 144 points of advanced standing. To be eligible for the degree, they will then be required to complete a program of study with either a further 96 credit points or 48 credit points.
Students entering the course with three years of approved teacher training will receive 144 credit points. To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of Educational Studies (Special Education), they would complete eight six-point units at fourth-year level as follows:
Students entering the course with two years of approved teacher training will receive 96 credit points. To be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Educational Studies (Special Education), they would complete 16 six-point units at third and fourth-year levels as follows:
The course is a four-year, full-time course. As admission to the course requires candidates to be approved trained teachers, they will normally be granted admission with advanced standing. This will allow them to complete the course with either one year or two years of full-time study or part-time equivalent. The expected number of hours per week is 48 for a full-time student and 24 for a part-time student.
