Graduate Diploma of Midwifery

The Graduate Diploma of Midwifery, offered by the School of Nursing, will enable nurses to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to gain endorsement by the Nurses Board of Victoria to practise as a midwife.

Applicants would normally have a degree in nursing or a related discipline; registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria (Division 1 or eligible for registration); and at least one year of professional clinical experience. Special entry may be available.

Course structure

Students will be required to undertake six specialist units and/or an elective unit for a total of 48 credit points. The course will be offered part-time over two years by flexible delivery, comprising three one-week on-campus study schools, online and off-campus delivery through Gippsland campus and participating hospitals across regional, rural and metropolitan Victoria. Students are employed part-time in maternity and units are scheduled in a manner that enables them to undertake further employment.
