The Graduate Certificate in Information Management and Systems
(GCIMS) is offered by the School of Information Management and Systems (SIMS).
The aim of the program is to prepare students for careers in information
systems and information management. Graduates are expected to play leading
professional roles in Australia and other countries. The course attracts
students from a wide variety of educational and professional backgrounds. It
can be studied in full-time and part-time modes, and a number of units are
available by off-campus learning (OCL).
The GCIMS is both an entry and exit award. To qualify for the GCIMS, students
must complete 24 points of graduate units from within SIMS. Students may also
take out this award by exiting the Master of Information Management and Systems
after completing 24 points of study.
The normal entry requirement is a degree that is equivalent to an Australian bachelors degree. Candidates without formal tertiary qualifications should normally enter via the faculty's Professional Certificate in Information Technology, except in exceptional circumstances as approved by the head of school.
Four graduate-level units are selected from units offered by the School of Information Management and Systems. Students without appropriate background knowledge will be required to satisfactorily complete a selection of the foundation units (9000 level) before proceeding to other graduate units (5000 level).
* Units offered on-campus and by off-campus learning (OCL).
# Special entry units requiring formal approval of the course coordinator.
The course duration is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time.
