Master of Applied Economics

The course has been designed for graduates with an
undergraduate degree in economics, finance, econometrics or their equivalent,
seeking to extend, deepen and upgrade their knowledge in order to apply that to
the workplace. Specialisations are offered in the areas of Asian and
international economics, finance, health economics, and econometrics.
Applicants require either of the following:
- a Bachelor of Commerce (or equivalent) majoring in economics, econometrics
or finance, or
- a pass degree in another discipline plus the Graduate Diploma in Economic
Studies (or equivalent).
(a) Students must complete three core units (18 credit
points):
- ECF4100 Applied microeconomics
- ECF4200 Applied macroeconomics
- ECC5010 Applied economics issues research paper (compulsory)
(b) Students must complete two units (12 credit points) from one
of the following specialisations:
- ECC4820 Comparative economic systems, ideology and policy
- ECC4670 Economic development theory and practice
- ECC4367 Economics of developing countries
- ECC4000 Reading unit (on Asia/international)
- ECC4369 International economics
- ECC4357 The international economy since 1945
- AFC3144 Advanced business finance**
- AFC3174 Management of financial intermediaries
- AFC3234 Financial analysis and evaluation
- AFC4140 Corporate financial theory
- AFC3344 Options, financial futures and other derivatives
- ECC4870 Health economics
- ECC4990 Economic evaluation of health services
- ETC3444 Practical econometrics (students enrolling in this course with
no prior knowledge of econometrics are strongly advised to take this unit)
- ETC3414 Applied econometrics
- ETC3464 Financial econometrics
- ETC3454 Time series analysis for business and economics
- ETF5000 Special reading unit 1

(c) Students must
