Writing 1: Techniques (6 points)

Synopsis: Writing skills and techniques, eg the compositional skills found in forms such as prose fiction, feature articles, reviewing, travel writing, autobiography, biography and the essay. The cultural and social contexts of writing, including on-line communities. The relation between print and visual material. Editing and preparing of copy for publication.

Assessment: Journal (2000 words): 50% + Major project (2500 words): 50%

Contact Hours: 2 hours per week(1-hour lecture, 1-hour tute)

Prerequisites: A first-level sequence in communications or equivalent and one of GSC2405/WRT2405, GSC2406, GSC2407/WRT3407

Prohibitions: GSC3421, GSC3425
