The Tourist Experience (6 points)

Leader: Helen Doyle

Not offered in 2003.

Synopsis: Beginning with a consideration of the primary elements of the tourist experience - the site, the itinerary, the guidebook and the tourist - this course proceeds to give closer attention to the processes of communication and interpretation. It studies the relationships between the tourist and both natural and historic environments, and examines the impact of tourism on indigenous cultures. The lecture and tutorial program is designed around case-studies, with a particular emphasis on international tourist locales.
