Introduction to creative arts (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit is an introduction to the theoretical frameworks of creative arts practice. Social, historical and cultural models will be considered and evaluated in relation to the contemporary situation. All forms of art, design and media will be considered. The presentation, criticism, interpretation and management of the arts will be explored as dialectical elements that have shaped and informed creative arts practice and continue to do so. Students are expected to investigate this discourse in a critical and analytical manner, and reflect on its significance.

Assessment: Report on a current artistic event, exhibition or display (1000 words) 25%; class presentation and written report (1000 words) 25%; and essay (2500 words) 50%.

Contact Hours: 6 points + Semester Offering 2 + 12 hours per week including; 1 hour lecture and 2 hour seminar and 9 hours of independent study + Prerequisite TAD1101 or TAD1203 + Permission required.

Prerequisites: TAD1101 or TAD1203
