SWK4430Cross-cultural social work: Theory and practice (6 points)(MED) Leader: Max Liddell
Offered: Synopsis: This unit enables students to develop a framework for working with people in a multicultural society, and to understand the complexity of cultural factors in people's lives. It covers the broad history of Australian immigration and current debates, the common needs of migrant and/or ethnic groups and available services, and identifies the culturally-based assumptions which may be applied to definitions of social need. It identifies the principles and practices necessary for culturally sensitive practice, and enables students to practice these in tutorials. Assessment: Essay (3000 words): 67% + Practice analysis (1500 words): 33% Contact Hours: 3 hours per week Prerequisites: SWK3180 |
