Synopsis: Areas related to the way in which knowledge is developed. Philosophical issues including the relationship between values, theory, ideology and knowlegde. The nature od social work 'knowing' especially the adequacy of the view about knowledge held in the social work lilterature.

Assessment: Class presentation (3500 words): 25% + Written assignment (5500 words): 75%
