Statistical Modelling (6 points)

Synopsis: Probability models, discrete and continuous random variables, sampling distributions of the mean and variance. Introduction to bivariate distributions, conditional distributions and expectations. Mathematical principles underlying inference from normal populations and the binomial distribution. Inference from linear regression including confidence limits and prediction intervals. Introduction to multiple regression. Non-parametric tests. Introduction to sample surveys.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Mid-semester test: 10% + Assignments: 20%

Contact Hours: Three 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour support class per week

Prerequisites: MTH1020 and STA1010, or MTH1030, or equivalent

Prohibitions: MAT2222, MTH2222, MTH3222 or STA3022
