Discourse and Power in the Media and Politics of the Hispanic World (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit focuses on the deconstruction of mass media, medical and political texts by observing the discourse types that shape and form the discourse. Special emphasis is placed on the dynamic relation between the local organization of the discourse and the global socio-cultural, historical and political characteristics that permeate and help to reconstruct the Hispanic discourse.

Assessment: Two tests (equivalent to 500 words each): 30% + one essay (1500 words): 35% + one seminar paper (1000 words): 15% + one oral presentation (equivalent to 500 words): 10% + bibliography (equivalent to 500 words): 10%

Contact Hours: 3 hours (1.5 hour lecture and 1.5 hour seminar) per week

Prerequisites: SPN2130 and SPN2290 or permission
