Offered: Synopsis: This unit examines the main theoretical debates in the sociology of education from an historical perspective as it relates to current debates surrounding this most contentious of areas. Students will explore the idealogical bases underpinning prevailing educational philosophies, the epistemological and practical implications, and their relationship to political and economic imperatives. Assessment: Research project (2500 words): 50% + Examination (2 hours): 50% Contact Hours: 2 hours per week Prerequisites: First-year sequence in Sociology or permission Prohibitions: SCY3142 |
