Radiation therapy planning and treatment 2 (6 points)

Synopsis: This unit deals specifically with radiation therapy planning and treatment rationale and methods. This unit builds upon the previous unit and introduces the student to diseases and treatment sites in the torso and extremities that present more advanced planning and treatment considerations and problems. Solutions to more complex problems reflecting treatment site and disease, patient shape and contour and more sophisticated stabilisation methods will be developed. Simple brachytherapy techniques will also be introduced and the roles with respect to external beam treatment discussed.

Assessment: Four clinical action plans and comparative reports: 10% + Written examination (two hours): 45% + Practical examination (one hour): 35% + Computer exercises: 10%

Prerequisites: Successful completion of all units in year 1 of the course
