RLT1010Classical Christian Spiritualities (6 points)(ARTS) Leader: Austin Cooper and Constant Mews
Offered: Synopsis: An introduction to the literature of Christian spirituality from the beginnings to the medieval mystics. It explores the nature of spirituality and mysticism and their relationship to a variety of theological and cultural settings, within this formative period. Students will be required to experience and critically assess some contemporary manisfestations of these traditions, eg. the Liturgy of Eastern Christians or a monastic community. Assessment: Introductory assignment (500 words): 10% + Two essays (1200 words each): 50% + Report of a liturgical experience (600 words): 10% + Written examination (1.5 hours): 30% Contact Hours: 3 hours (2 lectures and 1 tutorial) per week |
