Synopsis: Psycholinguistics is a rapidly developing specialty within cognitive psychology that concerns itself with the mental structures and processes that underlie ordinary language use and its development. The fundamental issue for the psycholinguist is what is it that language users do that enables them to comprehend language inputs of a variety of types and produce meaningful language in its various forms. Each week's seminar will have a different theme and will involve a mix of student presentations, demonstrations of experimental techniques used by psycholinguists, and discussions of a range of current issues within the domain of psycholinguistics.

Assessment: On-campus: Presentation of a 20 minute paper (30%) + participation in class discussion (20%) + Essay (2,000 words) (50%). OCDL: Presentation of a paper (on the web) (30%) + participation in weekly on-line discussion groups (20%) + Essay (2,000 words) (50%).
