Synopsis: On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to appreciate the challenges of interpreting western art and design of the industrial period and positioning them in the context of ideological and spiritual values; present their insights and intuitions in relation to the critical terms of contemporary discourse an articulate and imaginative written manner; and will identify critical values when conducting visual analysis and be able to deconstruct the ideological bias in historiacal representation.

Assessment: First assignment (1500 words) 25% + Second assignment (4500 words) 75%

Contact Hours: One 2-hour seminar and 10-hours independant study per week

Prerequisites: admission to MVA course
