Synopsis: An introduction to the theory and practice of fieldwork in the musical traditions of the West and other cultures of the world, including individual and group fieldwork planning and methods; audio-recording, videoing and filming; the processing of field materials, including transcription and analysis; and reviewing of ethnographic films; videos and records.

Assessment: Written (3000 words): 33% + Individual fieldwork assignment (3000 words): 33% + Group fieldwork assignment (3000 words): 33%
