MICA paramedic trauma and emergency care (12 points)

Synopsis: This subject covers the necessary skills and knowledge required by MICA paramedics to provide care to the paediatric, neonatal, obstetric and adult population. Related content includes: trauma systems; time critical guidelines; triage; perfusion status assessment; fluid resuscitation; pain relief; emergency sedation; emergency needle thoracostomy; intraosseous infusion; jugular venous cannulation; and the pneumatic anti-shock suit. This subject will also detail the management of common medical emergencies and will cover advanced airway techniques including intubation and ventilatory support.

Assessment: Examinations: 75% + Small group activity: 15% + Clinical problem solving worksheet: 10 % + Practical assessment: Pass/Fail

Prerequisites: employment by an Ambulance Service
