Nature of midwifery practice (6 points)

Synopsis: On completion of this unit, the student should be able to: describe the development of the midwifery role, from historical and current perspectives; describe the scope of midwifery practice; discuss legal and ethical considerations on midwifery practice; outline the roles and functions of professional organisations, locally, nationally, and globally, that have an impact on the delivery of midwifery services; describe the various models of midwifery care available for the childbearing woman; examine social and cultural implications on birthing; explore the professional responsibility of the midwife for ongoing professional development.

Assessment: Presentation 25% + Written assignment 50% + Written assignment 25%
