Systems thinking and theory (6 points)

Synopsis: Managing complexity, organisations as open systems, ways of thinking, approaches to systems thinking - in particular contributions from Emery, Forrester, Checkland, Beer, Flood and Jackson, etc., world views and outline of general systems theory, cognitive issues relating to systems thinking, and systems thinking and scientific method.

Assessment: Individual presentations: 30% + Group assignment (3000 words): 30% + Individual assignment (3500 words): 40%

Contact Hours: 3-hour class per week, block mode

Prerequisites: Must have passed four 9000-level units
