Obstetrics and gynaecology and paediatrics (20 points)

Synopsis: Clinical teaching in a hospital environment including patient clerking, pactise of history taking and examination, patient management and rostered activities in paediatric, and gynaecology wards. Specialty teaching clinics and tutorials and a lecture series covering principles concepts and problems peculiar to paediatrics. Experience in newborn care, paediatric emergencies and paramedical programs. Attachment to delivery suite. Antenatal clinic teaching with practice of history and examination skills and performing pap smears. Surgical teaching in gynaecological and special clinics in family planning, infertility, sexual counselling, sexually transmitted diseases, foetal diagnosis.

Assessment: Continuous assessment (clinical skills, oral presentations and written reports - satisfactory completion required) + OSCE and written examination: 100%

Contact Hours: An 18-week rotation. Continuous attachement in a hospital environment.

Prerequisites: Pass all year 4 MBBS.

Corequisites: Must be enrolled in MBBS or MBBS/LLB
