Mechanical vibrations (4 points)

Synopsis: Undamped and damped free vibration. Energy and Rayleigh's method. Viscous damping. Logarithmic decrement. Forced vibration, impedance and Bode diagram. Resonance, vibration isolation, reciprocating and rotating unbalance. Whirling of rotating shafts. Fourier analysis, impulse function and convolution integral. Systems with two degrees of freedom, normal modes, principal coordinates, vibration absorbers, forced and free response. Continuous systems, string, longitudinal, torsional and transverse vibration of beams. Lagranges equations and applications. Human effects.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 75% + Laboratory and tutorials: 25%

Contact Hours: 22 lectures, 18 tutorials and laboratory hours
