Synopsis: Revision: shear force, axial force and bending movement. Bending and shear stresses. Deflection of beams. Axially loaded columns. Torsion of circular shafts. Combined stresses and Mohr stress circle. Combined stresses. Principal stress in beams. Theories of failure. Stress concentration problems. Full stress reversal fatigue problems. Mean and alternating stresses.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 80% + Laboratory work: 10% + Tutorials: 10%
