Synopsis: This unit considers language contact theory and its application in Australia and elsewhere transference and code-switching, bilingualism, language maintenance and shift, language policy, and field work.

Assessment: Written assignment (2500 words): 50% + Class test (2 hours): 40% + Class exercise (500 words): 10%

Contact Hours: 2 hour seminar per week

Prerequisites: A first-year sequence in Linguistics
