Synopsis: This subject examines the major public and private international law rules governing the carriage of passengers and goods by air. Areas covered include the regulatory framework of international civil aviation, including the role of the Chicago Convention 1944; the legal status of airspace, bilateral and multilateral regulation of commercial rights for the operation of international air services; the liability of air carriers in the carriage of passengers, baggage and cargo, as governed by international conventions and carrier contracts; issues of aviation security, as governed by international conventions on hijacking, sabotage and other forms of unlawful interference.

Assessment: Take-home examination (no more than 7500) 100% OR Take-home examination (no more than 4500 words): 60% Research assignment (3000) words): 40%
