Synopsis: Laws governing the structure of the broadcasting and print media e.g. regulation of entry into these media, regulatory bodies, ownership and control restrictions, programming and content restrictions and complaints mechanisms. A selection of the laws governing the way in which the broadcasting and print media collect and disseminate news and information e.g. obtaining information about court proceedings, suppression orders, contempt of court, contempt of Parliament, obtaining access to information about government, reporting elections and other political material, trespass to land and nuisance, negligence, obscene publications.

Assessment: Either one research paper (2000 words): 25% and one examination (2 hours writing time, 30 minutes reading time): 75% OR one examination (3 hours writing time, 30 minutes reading time): 100%
