JPL1550Japanese for Background Speakers, Part 1 (6 points)(ARTS) Leader: TBA
Offered: Synopsis: This unit is the first part of a one-year first-year sequence for Japanese background speakers. It aims to expand student's knowledge of the Japanese language and culture and to equip students to be able to adapt their language skills to their intellectual and social activities in both Japanese and Australian societies. It also aims to assist students to develop their critical awareness of identity in cross-cultural contexts. Assessment: Ongoing assessment including quizzes, interpreting and on-line discussion: 35% + Essay (equivalent to 1500 words in English): 20% + Oral presentation: 15% and Final exam (1.5hours): 30% Contact Hours: 4 hours (2 x 2hour seminar) Prerequisites: Successful completion of VCE LOTE Japanese first language stream Units 3&4, or equivalent.
