Synopsis: An overview of major world events in the Twentieth Century in order to gain an understanding of how the world has come to be as it is today. Themes include nationalism and imperialism; democracy and the First World War; Communism; Fascism and the Second World War; decolonisation; postwar affluence and youth movements; the collapse of Communism.

Assessment: Document analysis (1000 words): 20% + Essay (1500 words): 30% + Examination (2 hours): 40% + Tutorial participation: 10%

Contact Hours: 2-hour lecture and one tutorial per week
