Synopsis: The language content of this unit is based on three broad themes: history/politics, mass media, and theatre. An introductory lecture on the weekly theme leads to two listening and speaking practicals which exploit forums, debate, and role play as a medium to trial and apply language and cultural knowledge. Intensive reading, grammar and translation skills are developed in a weekly tutorial.

Assessment: Oral presentation (10 minutes): 20% + Project proposal/evaluation (1500 words): 20% + Short tasks: 10% + Examination (2 hours): 50%

Contact Hours: 4 hours per week (1x1 hr lecture,1x2 hr practicals and 1x1 hr tutorial)

Prerequisites: INM2225 or equivalent
