Synopsis: Introduction to industrial engineering: productivity measurement. Factors in productivity improvement. Work measurement. Computerised time standards. Work sampling. Methods analysis and design. Principles of motion economy; their relationship to the work environment; design of tools and equipment. Process charting. Job design and evaluation. Implementation of change; understanding organisational culture; total quality management.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 70% + Laboratory work and assignments: 30%

Contact Hours: 22 lecture hours and 22 tutorial/laboratory hours
