Information management and systems research methods (6 points)

Synopsis: This subject deals with pragmatics of conducting research in information management and systems. On completion students will understand the characteristics of good research, and how it should be planned, conducted, and presented. They will be capable of evaluating alternative approaches to a research problem and develop analytical skills in presenting research results. A specific aim is to develop skills in rigorous research design and analysis of data. Various research design approaches will be discussed. The subject will cover data collection and analysis techniques for both qualitative and quantitative studies. Students wishing to take research degrees are expected to do this unit.

Assessment: Assignments: 50% + Formal Supervised Assessment: 50%

Contact Hours: 1 hour - direct communication; 9 hours - directed reading, private study; 2 hours - assignment project work, per week
