Industry Based Learning (6 points)

Australia (Other) Second semester 2003 (Off-campus)

Synopsis: Students undertake discipline-related work in a full time, paid industrial placement of a minumum of 20 weeks. Students participate in a selection process and are short-listed based on academic performance and progress, interpersonal and communication skills and employer requirements. Students must be offered an approved placement before enrolling in the subject. Students negotiate and undertake a learning contract with their workplace and academic supervisors, in response to the requirements of their role, focusing on personal and professional development, understanding their environment at the team, organisation and indusry level and development of scientific skills and knowledge.

Assessment: Attendance, employer evaluation, progress reports and learning contract (pass grade only is awarded).

Contact Hours: minimum of 20 weeks full-time industrial placement

Prerequisites: 72 credit points in the BSc or associated tagged or double degree programs, and authorisation of the Associate Dean (Teaching) in the Faculty of Science
