The World Since 1900 (12 points)

(ARTS)

Leader: Dr Marc Brodie

Offered:
Clayton Second semester 2003 (OCL)
Clayton Second semester 2004 (OCL)

Synopsis: This unit is designed to provide teachers with an overview of the latest historical approaches to the study of twentieth century history. Through a teaching approach based on self-directed learning, using available web resources extensively, it will also provide teachers with a relevant "bank" of web and similar materials they can use in their own teaching of related subjects. A major component of the unit will be the examination of new perspectives on the events and issues of the century - either as available in new historical writing or through the use of normally neglected forms of evidence and alternative views of the "truth" of events.

Assessment: Reflective on-line journal (3000 words): 30% + Two group presentations to on-line discussion forum (2000 words in total): 30% + Essay/lesson (4000 words): 40%
