GSE4803Computer systems and networks (6 points)(ENG) Leader: K Spriggs
Offered: Synopsis: Data communications theme focuses on: communications theory for data transmission and characteristics of transmission media; WAN and LAN technology and network models including the OSI standard; and communications protocols especially TCP/IP. Software engineering theme concentrates on: basic Internet programming via HTML and CGI; Windows Internet programming via pre-defined objects and Active-X forms; platform independent Internet programming via Java applets and applications. Server theme introduces: access and account issues; firewalls and security; database access, engines and middleware. Assessment: Oral presentation: 20% + Examination (2 hours): 40% + Laboratory-based assignments: 40% Contact Hours: 26 lecture hours, 26 laboratory hours, 26 hours tutorial (on-campus) Prerequisites: 36 credit points of level three of the Mechatronics course, including GSE3701 |
