Design of concrete structures (4 points)

Synopsis: Students will be introduced to the concepts of load and resistance, load factors and capacity factors and the design criteria for strength and serviceability of structures, the behaviour of concrete structural elements: beams, columns, slab systems subjected to complex design loads, the response of structures under applied load, load paths through different structural elements, the various concepts on which Australian Design Standards are based, and design procedures for beams, columns and slab systems.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 50% + Major design assignments and research project: 40% + Laboratory report: 10%

Contact Hours: 1 lecture hour and 3 tutorial hours per week

Prerequisites: ENG1201, GSE2201
