Soil and foundation mechanics (4 points)

Gippsland First semester 2003 (OCL)

Synopsis: Compressibility of soil, settlement, soil compaction, lateral earth pressure, retaining wall, bracing of excavations, sheet pile, geomembrane, subsurface exploration and sampling, soil bearing capacity of shallow and deep foundations, settlement of foundations.

Assessment: Examination: 65% + Assignments, seminar, class tests and laboratory work: 35%

Contact Hours: 26 lecture hours, 13 tutorial hours and 13 laboratory/seminar hours (on-campus)

Prerequisites: GEG2323 or GSE2202
