Synopsis: Origins of the discipline. The nature of sociological knowledge. The sociological imagination. Experiencing everyday life through the self, body and emotions. Families and schools. The mass media. The sociological quest to understand the transformation of society.

Assessment: Assignment 1 (1000 words): 25% + Assignment 2 (1500 words): 35% + Examination (2 hours): 40%

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week (2-hour lecture,1-hour tutorial)
