Resource Evaluation and Management (6 points)

Synopsis: National and international conflicts over the use of natural resources, eg. rainforest destruction, land degradation, pressure on water supplies and common property resources such as the world's oceans. Socio-political-legal aspects of these disputes and differing attitudes to the environment of various interests groups. Market-based 'solutions' to environmental problems. The role of the state and international diplomacy in dealing with global and national environmental problems.

Assessment: Tutorial paper (1000 words): 20% + Examination (1 hour): 15% + Essay (2500 words): 55% + Class participation: 10%

Contact Hours: 3 hours (2 lectures and 1 tutorial) per week

Prerequisites: A second-year sequence in geography or permission
